Volunteer Opportunities
Graces of Gurley is a small non-profit and we rely heavily on volunteers and donations from our neighbors and surrounding communities. If you’d like to be a part of the Lord’s work in Gurley, we invite you to join us!
Our current need is for someone to come in a few hours a week to help out with administrative duties. If you are looking for a place to serve call 256.361.9281 for more information!
Immediate Need
Graces of Gurley’s flagship program is our Jacob’s Ladder Youth Mentor Groups. We currently have openings for helpers with our Minis (elementary students) on Tuesdays from 2:30 to 4 PM and our Juniors (middle school students) on Wednesdays from 2:30 to 4 PM. As a helper, volunteers will assist the leaders in passing out snacks, talking to the kids about their day, and keeping them on track during Bible study and activity time. All adults working with children must have references and pass a background check.
Donate food & supplies for after school groups
Graces of Gurley is a small non-profit and we rely on volunteers and donations from our neighbors and surrounding communities to keep our programs running. If you’d like to be a part of the Lord’s work in Gurley, we invite you to join us! Currently we are in need of snacks for our Jacob’s Ladder youth mentor programs. We host over 40 kids each week who are hungry when they get to us after school. The snacks you provide help them to feel at home when they come to The Refuge and keeps them focused while we’re together.
We miss our House Parents!
When we opened the Refuge we had the most amazing house parents. They were there to open the house, welcome the kids, have snacks available (often homemade cookies), offer help with homework, share a word of encouragement, and lock up at the end of our time together. They were family! During the COVID pandemic they moved to be closer to family and now serve as our prayer warriors! This position is most suited for a retired couple that can be available after school from 2:30 to 4PM a couple days a week. They must love Jesus and love His children, have references and pass a background check.
Volunteer to be a PAL to a MCES elementary or middle school student
We started our Jacob’s Ladder Jr. ministry in the fall of 2020. Our kids love coming to Bible study, playing games, and fellowshipping together. We need loving adults to come along side them and be their cheerleaders. This role is similar to a mentor but does not require as much of a commitment - you have the flexibility of coming to meetings when you can, have lunch with them at school, send them cards in the mail or send a text just saying “have a great day”. All volunteers working with youth are required to give references and pass a background check.
